Hilton's underpromise / overdeliver on the Elite breakfast benefit

Strictly speaking, under HHonors Gold terms, I have free breakfast for up to 2 guests regardless of how many rooms or guests I book under my name.

On every occasion where I've booked multiple rooms and 3+ guests, I've had breakfast comped for every guest, without ever asking.

Marriott has the same written policy for their Gold guests, yet I have never been able to get their front desk to give me more than 2 vouchers. Once at a full service Marriott in North Carolina, I asked politely if the breakfast benefit could be extended to the third guest registered to my room. The front desk agent looked up from his computer, stared at me, and said, "You have two vouchers, so how could you use them for three people?"
