I got an email today saying my Marriott and SPG accounts were unlinked. It turns out that my first name in my Marriott account is the diminutive of the name I used for my SPG account. The weird thing is that my accounts have been linked since the day they announced that accounts could be linked, oh so many months ago. I've been transferring points like a happy camper for some time now. And now they decide my accounts can't be linked? I certainly didn't receive any prior notification about this.

My apologies if this has been discussed. I searched but couldn't find a thread.
