I purchase many of my long haul flights during peak travel times and pay a premium for those business class tickets. It is not unreasonable to hope for an opportunity to redeem during a similar travel period. I have been unable to redeem anything longhaul over the past 4 years. Lots of crappy short haul redemptions which were of poor value, but that is all I could get. This is why I do the same as phdtraveler and started purchasing based upon price with no concern about "status".
This is not what we are talking about. Sean is claiming that it was once easy to book said flights ex YVR for Christmas travel to an Eastern or Central Canada hub within a few months of departure. This is not true.
