I'm new to the whole upgrade and EF process, so is that normal, or something I can talk to an AA rep about to get that waitlist upgrade processed and confirmed? My apologies in advance if this has been asked before - I've used the search function, but either the thread doesn't exist already or I haven't found the right keywords to find it.
Welcome to FT. You need C space on the AA flight number.

C space being available under a codeshare flight number is normal and is completely irrelevant with regards to upgrade space on AA. For example, on many carriers C is a revenue business class fare bucket.
