Traffic in all of KL is awful during rainstorms But that's what the transit system is for. Otherwise, cabs are a better bet. KL's best shopping mall (Suria) and best nightlife (Zouk/Beach Club/Bliss) are within walking distance of the MO. Plus, the subway underneath the mall is well connected to the rest of KL. The only reason to stay at the JW - besides the great restaurants - is the Bukit Bintang area which has gotten tired both shopping- and nightlife-wise, IMO. Food at the MO is so-so but Suria has lots of dining options.

Speaking of traffic, almost all the hotels (incl. shopping, nightlife, etc.) mentioned here are located on or off Jalan Sultan Ismail which is the main road cutting through the golden triangle and traffic is absolutey abysmal at all hours. There is a monorail that runs down its spine but I've never used it.

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear about the Hilton at Sentral aiming for the higher end. The chain does have a thing for building on top of/near an airport express station (Paddington) which is very smart.

Also, for SPG folks, the Westin is located next door to the JW; a better location than the Sheraton IMO.
