Currently staying at a Residence Inn and the hotel is without water since 4 am. It's morning time now and there is no water still. Apparently the issue is affecting the entire city block and there is no estimate on when water would be restored. Could be the entire day!

asked the front desk and the guy there is by himself and said I should search online / he is too busy / over-whelmed to help.
Also, is it fair to expect compensation for this? Paid for both rooms with points and I have Gold status.

Personally, I wouldn't expect compensation if it's not the hotel's fault. In other words, if only the hotel didn't have water than probably, but if its a city issue effecting the entire block there's not really anything the hotel can do to control the situation.
What I would expect is:
1) For them to call in more staff to assist - 1 person to handle all of it is rediculous
2) To offer to get you access to a local gym/other Marriott property so you can shower
3) If there is no water by noon and there si still no estimate for when there will be water I would expect the hotel to move me to another location for the night - either where I pay the original hotel and they work out the payment to the new hotel, OR I don't pay the original hotel for the night and the new hotel honors the same rate I was paying for the night I move.
