I am told in Chinese there is no specific name but it says something like "a flat fish with both eyes on the same side." Which of course could describe a halibut. But more likely, either a local flat fish of the family of halibut/sole/brill etc. Or one imported from NZ. Which is still more likely than a fish imported from north America or Europe.
Which the caterer or AC would have no hesitation in translating into something familaiar to Canadians...
