OP - if you are anywhere near as rude to the phone agent as you were to LBJ - who is one of the true experts on fare details etc. - even if Virgin/Delta could upgrade you, they probably won't try very hard if at all.

Having said that - you will have a less than 1% chance trying to accomplish what you described - which as I understand it, is using FlyingBlue miles to upgrade a Virgin flight.
