We were unable to load your payment preferences (BA app)

I get the following error message when trying to upgrade on two separate trips now.

"We were unable to load your payment preferences. Please try again."

Anybody know why this happens and how to get past it?

The ticket was booked via a TA but that has never stopped me upgrading via the app before..
