Start to make a reservation. If the booking class indicates that you can upgrade with miles, you can also upgrade with e-vouchers.
To my view, SEN status is mostly helpfull during IROPS, as lounge access, dedicated telephone line and increased help from gate agents make those situations less problematic. It is difficult to quantify the price of it, as IROPS are not foreseable. But if you fly a lot, you will necessarily fall into IROPS.
