So, I have asked servers before, not just mates. And others in the hospitality industry have posted here saying tips are unusual and/or unnecessary.
I'd love to meet a waitress that says "we don't need them."

Maybe it's where I grew up. It just wasn't even a thing. You tipped, unless you got sh!t service.
