I am having a exactly same problem with pre-selection seats.
Purchased a full flexi fare online, and pre-selected the seats for our flights straight away. Few days later, went online to see the status of booking again, all my preselected seats are disappeared.
After selecting the same seats again, this time, I decided to take photos of each sector seat selections, just in case if same thing happens again as a backup/proof if a problem occurs again. To my surprise, it shows as no seats are selected.
Now, I am emailing back and forth to (head office) resolve this matter with screenshots of selected seats with our names on it. but TG is just trying to wash their hands by saying those requested seats are taken and beyond their control. The situation, now, is that most of preferential seats are taken (one sector BKK-SYD), and asking me either choose the seats at the back of the plane together or seat separately in forward of the plane.
Today, I requested for an email address of someone in TG who can call the shots to resolve this matter.
See how it goes and will update the outcome.
After emailing and talking to TG office both here in SG and BKK office, they won't be able to give seats back as they are taken by someone else. They offered me to give 31 A & B, just decided to settle with these seats. I know these are right next galley and exit row, but at least can stretch legs. Lesson learnt here that I should call the office to select and email me the selected seat confirmation.
