Given the volcano ash problems with DPS over the last few months/years to me 1 ticket, with connecting flight protection, would be worth spending some more money.
At times I fly Australia New Zealand via a transit city with separate tickets. But I know the risk/cost/time of no showing with separate tickets.

When are you travelling? We will look for ash clouds at that time
