The Langham is former Sheraton Melbourne that I stayed in as a child, around 25 years ago. It was a fine hotel then, but the Langham has never interested me for the very reasons you describe above. Also, all that Pink.
The FS SYD is a joke. How it maintains that brand is beyond me. The lifts are a reminder of the era the hotel comes from.
