I actually really like some of the "hip" concepts in the lobbies, bars, and restaurants. I'm finding more hotels in all brands (even in midrange ones) that have good lobby cafes with some local taps, decent wine, a bartender who knows how to make a proper cocktail, etc. A modern menu with more appetizers/tapas, lighter options, etc. Previously a lot of hotels had their lobby bars stuck in the 1970s view of what a bar was and it was time for a change. The menu often felt dominated by burgers at the bar or steaks in the restaurant. Now the variety and quality has improved and modernized quite a bit.
