Replace the pins with stickers, different stickers for different age brackets. I did it with my children. It is interesting to see the changes as they grow up. My cost centre number 3 (daughter) went from stars, to disney princesses to musical instruments and more, now (21) she started using pins. My eldest (40) has the map with a combination of stickers, pen marks and pins in his study.
