Seat map doesn't equal seats for sale. Not everyone preassigns, especially non-North Americans. There's no pattern. Closer to DoD they'll know better how full, so that's the one plus. Note mileage upgrades don't transfer to the gate. Thus even if there's leftover seat prior to departure, no upgrade.
