Feel obligated to post this here even though it is a successful upgrade. Used instruments on SFO-KOA-SFO. The return flight at T48 had 17 open F seats! The couple of paxs I spoke to got CPU'ed at T24. I got upgraded with a phone call about 5 days prior to departure. I can say that in years this has never happened to me. Clearly the volcano is taking its toll on travel in and out of the islands, particularly Hawaii. Neither flight was sold out. I wonder if UA will cut back their schedule to just two flights in and out of KOA and day to SFO instead of the 3 they have now?
