For those with more extensive cc portfolio and have already exhausted most signup bonuses, then options 2 and 3 need to be considered as well.
The churner is about the way of the past. Chase 5/24 and AmEx "lifetime" effectively shut the doors. Cap 1, WF and Barclay get relatively tight underwriting standard, or highly unpredictable. Some people can still get 3-4 new cards a year and continue to work on a SUB every 3 months.
But high spending is on-going. Some folks can MS like $20k each month. It is like their part-time job, more than a hobby.
