I never knew DL used remote gates at JFK. I know about C12-C14 at LGA, but since when has DL been using remote gates at JFK? Where are these gates located? DL 3494 on 6/17 is showing that it departed from Gate B53, which is a normal RJ gate at the end of T4.
Gate 18A/B is used for this purpose (said gates are where the Jitney loads, right by the shopping concourse; you turn right instead of the "normal" left to the other gates). I've never used it before; I suspect it exists as a backup option if things get snarled down at the far end (where you have a half-dozen regional jet/turboprop gates).
I'm not surprised that JFK has an option to remote load/disembark...after the tarmac limits came into play, I could see things getting heated if a plane was about to "time out" and no appropriate gates could be cleared. I just didn't know those gates were, well,
used.
