Waiting for claim
I submitted my first claim yesterday. Currently waiting to hear back.
Booked a room directly on the hotel's website the for 7 nights in Spain for a total of 1,900 EUR.
Found the exact same room on Amex Travel for ~$2,800 USD, which would be ~400 EUR more expensive.
Booked it anyway (free cancelation) and then sent in the claim. The confirmation page stated they'd try to reply within 4 hours. That was on a Friday night-- 12 hours later, no response as of yet, but also the Amex Travel site is down this whole weekend for maintenance so not sure if that will affect it.
The free cancelation option expires Tues, so if I don't hear back on Monday, I'll cancel my Amex booking and stick with the direct one.
In this case, booking direct was cheaper than all the other travel sites (which were also a lot cheaper than Amex).
Interestingly - the hotel doesn't accept Amex, so prepaid would be the only way I could use new my Amex Platinum. I'm in a qualification period for those initial 60K points, so this one reservation would get me half way there...
Will update on the result.
