At HKG recently, my flight was delayed by 35 mins and I requested to stand by for an earlier flight. The checkin person said “normally” they would charge USD 75 for change of time for a redemption ticket, but because my flight was delayed, the fee would be waived. I suspect once the airport takes control of all tickets, they do have considerable leeway to be flexible. But YMMV of course.
