No problems. But benefits due to one flyer won't carry over to the other PNR. So for example if your wife holds the AA credit card, if you are one one PNR, each passenger gets a free checked bag; if you split the PNR's, she'll get the free bag but you won't.
If you don't have the credit card or elite status, there's little downside to splitting the PNR.
