5th freedoms(?) logic - what the?!
So it seems to me Turkish is pretty good at 5th freedom flights (please, correct me if I'm wrong about the terminology...I'm utterly clueless) e.g. IST-GRU-EZE etc. I know various other airlines do the same, such as LATAM's SCL-MAD-FRA or multiple LIAT routes, but one thing I don't get is pricing...
On a route like MAD-FRA where there is competition, I understand pricing can be competitive, to say the least. But on routes that Turkish does like OUA-CKY or OUA-FNA, where they essentially have a monopoly, they're pretty damn expensive (say around $400-500 one way)...but then the routes which DO have competition, case in point, DSS-BJL, is priced at something like FIVE TIMES the amount Brussels Airlines would do for the same route...on the same day...why?!
Then, of course, there are those routes which don't transport anyone between the two points e.g. IST-BOG-PTY-IST, fair point - Copa, Avianca, and Wingo all fly between the two. But what about those with little or no competition, such as IST-SEZ-HAH, IST-MRU-TNR, etc. What's the logic behind NOT selling tickets between the two?
Perhaps I'm missing something major here...willing to be corrected on all this!
