We have been Pebble Beach, American Club, TPC Sawgrass, Bay Hill/Desney, but no Starwood resorts ever.
Quality of golf is most important, and then the quality of hotel and services.

Tak, I just returned from A day trip up to American Club to play the Straits course before the PGA....it is a totally different course than it was two years ago...they have removed over 40% of the fairways...watching the PGA will be painful/fun!
My vote for best Golf Resorts (short of the ones you've listed) would be:
1)Pinehurst - Great mix of modern golf and classic Donald Ross. The hotels are nice and I hear the new spa is fantastic.
2)Reynolds Plantation - The Ritz hotel is themed, but very nice and the golf is great, however, there is absolutely NOTHING to do outside of the resort
3)The Westin Innisbrook Resort has some really nice golf, but I stayed there a year or so ago, and the rooms needed some serious updating.
4)The Westin Kierland courses are nice "desert resort" courses, but nothing to travel exclusively for...however, Phoenix/Scottsdale has incredible golf within a 10-15 minute drive from that Hotel. I go out twice a year if you need recommendations.
5)If you want serious golf, STAY AWAY from the Phoencian courses...the hotel is wonderful (had a drink with Chi Chi Rodriguez last time I was there), but the courses stink.
6)The Westin La Cantera has a great track...they play the Texas Open there on the PGA tour. It is right next to six flags as well if you have kids, and the hotel is very nice.
That's about all I have, hope this helps out.
