I just did this flight last month. We took the AQ flight and had plenty of time for the connection. (We were told the connection time was too short for the last Hawaiian Airlines flight.) Continental transferred my bags to LIH. Unfortunately CO doesn't give miles for AQ, so we took Hawaiian Airlines for the return flight for the 500 EQms. Again, they transferred my bags right to Newark.

Awhile back I grabbed some BF award seats for EWR to HNL. The only problem is, I am wanting to go to Kauai. My flight is scheduled to arrive in HNL at 5:30pm. I am thinking about buying a separate ticket via Hawaiian air from HNL to Kauai..last flight out is 6:45pm. Is 1 hour enough time to collect bags from my CO flight and recheck at Hawaiian for my 6:45pm flight?
Or is this something I can ask the elite hotline to help me out? Could I purchase the tickets (HNL-Kauai) through CO elite line and that way my bags would check straight through?
The return is no problem, as the flight leaves HNL to EWR at 3:35pm, so plenty of flights in the morning from Kauai to HNL.
If anyone has any advice on this one, it would be much appreciated. I'd hate to get stuck in HNL for a night only.
