I recently completed a stay at the Stateview in Raleigh. As noted above, the hotel is comfortable and modern but it is designed with
no desks in the rooms. There is only a divan and a side table. In addition the room lighting is very poor. It was okay for doing screen work but not reading or writing on paper. I found this very frustrating as I had several hours of private work to do during the course of my stay in addition to attending meetings. Here's a photo:
I called down to the front after check-in to ask if I could be switched to a room with a desk. The staff advised me, "None of our rooms have desks. We are not a business class hotel."
"Not a business class hotel."
I will share this explanation with my company's travel planner.
