Can I put a hidden camera in my checked bag? Other ideas?
I can't find anything to the affirmative or negative about the legality of putting a hidden camera in my checked bag.
Background on this, I want to get a snapshot of the screener who inspects my checked bags so I can pinpoint them in my damaged item complaint. I fly a lot between the US and Japan and when I go that direction I often buy a lot of things at the supermarket to take back with me since the US is so much cheaper on many items, but also many items just aren't available in Japan. One thing that I take in bulk is cases of beer. I always pack items like this securely to both protect the integrity of the original packaging during rough handling and protect other items in case of leakage. However, no matter how carefully I pack them, TSA always unpacks them for inspection then refuses to put them back as found. For example I take plastic wrap and very tightly bind in around the beer cases so they can't rupture if mishandled. I even put the remaining plastic wrap right beside it in the suitcase so they can easily be wrapped back up after inspection but TSA never does it. I file a damaged item case every time, but it would help if I had an exact time of inspection and a photo of the person performing the inspection so they can easily be singled out by their supervisor should my complaint move forward.
TSA says they are supposed to put things back as found as much as reasonably possible, but this is a very consistent problem and I want to know what to do to get them to wrap my bulky items back up after inspection.
