The connection wouldn't be airside, BTW; you end up landside after you exit customs. You can go back through security at TBIT and then walk to T7, as opposed to taking the inter-terminal shuttle, which is what I think you meant.
SMH! I don't know where I got the idea that it was a legal connection. Anyway...

Thanks for this quick and very useful reply. A couple more questions, then:

1. Am I correct, then, in assuming that if we simply bought separate tickets for the 8 am UA flight we'd be taking a big chance on making that connection?
2. If 8 am is in fact rather risky, our next UA option would be the 10 am (since for some reason the 9 am is much pricier). Between arriving on SQ in F and having both Amex Plat and Priority Pass lounge access, is there a lounge we could access between flights?
