Yes if you are paying with a credit or debit card. If paying with a credit card, customers are limited to (4) gifts cards or $200 per day. If paying with a debit card, customers are limited to (20) gift cards or $2000 per day unless authorized by a Store Director.
Actually, that policy went away once Safeway/Vons activated the Chip Card Readers in its stores... but some stores still have the signs up and follow that policy because they feel like doing so. None in my area anymore... but there were still a couple as recently as a few months ago.
