It's interesting that you find the presence of a lounge (which one may choose not to use and/or pay for) as a sign that a RC is not upscale. And while I wholeheartedly agree that one of the joys of traveling is getting out of the hotel to experience local culture and cuisine, I do not think I would characterize RC lounges as "crappy".
