If you gave them your reservation number, they should have been able to look up the booking.
Once they established you had a genuine booking - and they were already fully booked - they needed to provide you with a night at another hotel with transport paid for by themselves - and they needed to pay for the room at the other hotel - and, if you were still very annoyed, refund your points.
If you didn't give them your reservation number, not much they could have done if they really couldn't find it any other way.
If you did give them your reservation number & they simply said they were full - then they have not followed the above policy which is, I believe, accurate although others here will know far more than me on that

Refusing to move once they managed to establish you had booked a room; until they gave you a room *somewhere to sleep* would have been a start / escalating to manager.
I went up to the front desk and said I was checking in and gave them my name. They could find nothing under my name, so I got my phone out, opened the app and showed them the booking with the booking reference / reservation number.
The person on the desk tried that and could still find nothing.
He got someone else involved and then possibly a manager who looked at my phone, played with the app and then said I had no reservation (she was refreshing the booking on the app but my phone doesn't always play ball as it is old and really sluggish, so the spinning wheel thing told her there was no booking) and that they were fully booked so there's no way I could have booked. No reservation = you're not staying here. That was it.
General attitude was that it's not our problem.
Ended up sleeping in my car elsewhere as lack of local rooms that night and prices were high.
