You can apply your GPUs to someone else's reservation. Getting them swapped out without losing the upgrade could be challenging, however, if upgrade space is not still available on the flight. You'll need to get a res agent involved. Get the other PNR/Pax name and call in to request it. If they won't guarantee keeping the upgrade in place then either hang up and try again or take the gamble based on what your friend wants to risk.
