I have been forced to gate check my underweight and under sized rollaboard at AMS twice. Had a purse with me too. So had to hold up the line whilst I opened the rollaboard and emptied out all the valuables/toiletries etc.

Tons of people got on after me with way bigger, and more bags, lots of overhead space available.

Bag was sent to carrousel, not at gate. So even more irritating.

After that I switched to a backpack with the same dimensions, I never get hassled for that, ever.
