Beware of Carcassone which we thought possibly the worst ever tourist trap. We drove down from the UK to Andorra and Spain and had booked into the Hotel de la Cite for three nights. We checked out after one night. It was absolutely awful, packed with tourists and I've never seen so many tacky shops selling plastic swords and helmets etc. There is a nice view to be had from a distance of the walled city . . .
