To be blunt, you're not going to interest Virgin Atlantic with one flight in PE booked as a DL codeshare. And if status matches were working commercially for VS, I'm sure we'd hear more about them. But they probably came to the conclusion that they were maybe stealing a flight or two, but many status matched Brits just gravitated back to BA because the route network is so much larger.

If you genuinely fly Business Class, then you don't need the status anyhow as you'd already have Clubhouse access, etc. All you'd miss out on is some bonus miles.
