Yes,but, it can add profitability to certain routes that help determine what type of aircraft to fly. For example, AA used to make a lot of money on Caribbean cargo on the A300's. There are certainly some routes out there today in South America that get aircraft that can ship in standard cargo containers that might otherwise end up with 738s.
