2. If the carrier is slightly big , will it matter?
3. If the cat is a little over 8kgs will it be a problem?
4. If my BSH is more than 8kgs , is it advisable to put him in cargo hold?
5. If any problem with the carrier / weight occurs , what will they do on the day of the flight?
My boys are 1 year old and already weighing 6-7 kgs. I’m planning the trip in a few months time. Leaving them in UK is not an option because we are moving to India for good. Does anyone have experience flying with their Mainecoons and/or British shorthairs? Thanks in advance 🙂

P.S. Lufthansa seems to be the only flight that will carry pets in cabin from UK to India.
Is the BSH brachycephalic? Have a fairly flat nose, maybe sniffle occasionally? If so, some airlines will not allow it in the cargo hold because the increased risk of death due to breathing problems. We have a BSH and she wheezes and has asthma, if she were to have breathing problems in the cargo hold they would likely kill her. But even flat faced cats without asthma are at increased risk of death in the cargo hold, and again, some airlines don't transport brachycephalic animals in the hold at all. If it came down to the only way our BSH could fly was in the cargo hold, I would find her a new home rather than put her at risk for a horrible death.

When I saw the title to your post I wondered who was posting about my cats - our second one is a Maine Coon. He's traveled a lot, loves long car rides and hotels, but never flown, so unfortunately I can't answer questions about air travel for Maine Coon cats.

Best of luck to you and the cats.
