OP, I would HUACA. I've cancelled expedia UK bookings within 24 hours (usually on the same calendar day, though) without any issue. Push them on it!
Edit: And tell them it's nothing to do with the fare rules.
yes! I'm using expedia.co.uk.
Gave it another go. Agent says regardless of BA policy they have their own which states the fare is non refundable
after the day of purchase.
Doubtful a subsequent hotel deal will make up for this loss! But maybe you never know!
