NYC Airporter is now NYC Express Bus run by to Golden Touch Limo (no they use buses) and only runs 11a to 7p daily and as you said only from Grand Central Terminal to LGA or JFK. Not great hours for the non-tourist. Still $17/$30 and wonderful family plan of 4th ticket free.

Still has the old URL https://www.nycairporter.com/ This took effect May 7th, the website still has links at bottom of the page for LGA to Times Square but on their lookup doesn't show.
Hourly service with any traffic will throw off the schedule and who knows how many if any standby buses they have. Not recommended.
