Also, if you end up staying in the hotel due to rain or the fact that it is humid as hell then it is nicer to have a good exec lounge to hang out at. For those reasons, I think the JW is the better choice given the op's criteria. The only thing that may come up short would be the upgrade as that might be a bit hit or miss but given the time of year you might have a chance there. I would say the W would be second based on your criteria but simply do not like that location very much.....it would however cover the breakfast ans possibly have a better chance at upgrade. If you have never been to HK when it is hot, humid and rainy.....the ability to be indoors as much as possible is a huge plus for me and the JW would be your best choice I think.
As an exHKGER, I could not agree more about JWM's location during the hot and humid months - you want a location that you can return to very easily to get some reprieve from outside. Pacific Mall also is very nice just to browsing. We very much enjoy browsing the high end shops that sell the exquisite watches.

We absolutely dont like the location of W, for that matter, RC as well. Never understand why W is so popular among some FTers here. Except for the Airport Express station, can't see how this location can be convenient for doing the usual sightseeing things in Hong Kong esp for first timer.

Ren is an inconvenient location other than you have a conference to attend at the convention center next door.
A very long walk to get to either the MTR or even the Star Ferry at Wanchai. The construction around it for the new MTR station definitely makes things even worse.

No one seems to mention SkyCity which surprisingly is quite convenient IF you know how to use the public buses - the E buses terminus is just across the big parking lot from the hotel, by the side of the Expo. You can go virtually anywhere in Hong Kong by taking the E buses and they offer some interesting rides.
You also can go to Lan Tau island with the Green mini vans with their terminus just behind the Tung Chung MTR. You get to see a countryside of Hong Kong. From Discovery Bay you can take a ferry to Central. That gives you a longer scenic ride on the water of Hong Kong than the now very short Star Ferry between TST and Central.
We just put our 7 nights Cat 6 cert to a week at SkyCity in later October. That is how much we enjoy the property, at 50% of the point cost as JWM.
