It is, but it is difficult to get properties to do it. Sometimes it's because a Marriott and Renaissance property, especially older ones in North America, don't have suites (or don't have more than 1-2 suites). Other times it's because they claim a suite isn't available, even though Marriott's booking channel says suites are available. Increasingly, many properties with suites don't even advertise them so you actually don't know. Regardless, I haven't found many suites in North America to be that desirable.

My favorite excuse from a front desk clerk is when they claim I've been upgraded to a room on the club/executive/concierge/M Club floor even though I booked that category of room in the first place.
