This is probably the case, that DFW is printed so big that she didn't notice a smaller AUS. What does the AA app say when she looks up her bag there?
And yes, there is a bag drop right after going through customs. If the bag is just checked to DFW, she should be able to check it there. Otherwise, as
EmailKid notes, she could always just head to a normal counter to check if needed.
