Help with late availability to LAX?

Hello there,

I’m looking like needing to get to LAX on the 13th June on an early ish arriving flight before an evening event (self funding last minute) and returning to LHR in time to be at work on Monday morning (ish) 18th June to be able to realistically invoice for a days work as a freelancer. (Need sat night stay as avios issues as below)

I’m a GCH and have looked at Avios reward bookings - the BA IT system is all over the place it seems and has told me a single journey avois seat in Y is free on 13th June (what I need - and system mentioned gold reward thing) but an avois return is only available 12th/14th June out - and not available inbound at all - contrary to both BA avois calendar online and BAredemptionfinder.com...

I found a well timed VS Y (arrive 12.30 return 10.05) return for 700GBP earlier today via skyscanner/trip.com which has now disappeared (I did take a screen grab) the same VS flights are now showing via skyscanner/budgetair @ 1015GBP just an hour later. I can’t get trip.com to price up similar. I would have defaulted to VS in light of huge fare difference and better flight time despite likely TA tour bucket fare (VS points etc don’t matter to me) and ditched any gold benefits.

The only BA.com Y fare is 1134.61GBP but back late in the day on Monday 18th - 4.05pm arrival. Is it worth looking at AA connections? With a BA sector on return? I would rather not fly Y at 6’4” and tend to buy/AUP/POUG into W or above. Ideally I would be on the BA 282 back at 10.10am but it’s sold out in Y and W too much money.

If I was to book by AA.com on BA metal am I right in thinking any AUP wouldn’t provide greater TP’s as it’s not a BA ticket? Same with IB/Finnair?

Any of you genuis’ have any wonderful ideas?!

Thanks in advance,
