There are 2 Avianca lounges, a small one that you access via a set of steep stairs, nothing great about it at all. The other is the Grand Elite, considerably larger, and has won a few awards. It is a bit out of the way, but if I have a 2+ hour layover I walk the extra steps, as it has very comfy recliners, and the wait staff brings a menu to you and serves you a mini meal on a lap tray. Also used to be a Zen meditation/yoga room that was closed /under renovation? when I was last there.
I didn't know there was a second Avianca lounge; I'll have to look for it next time. And agreed, the one with the steep stairs (near United's gates in T1) was pretty underwhelming.
