From what I have seen and read Qantas have always played hardball on this compared to most first world airlines.

Make a fuss in the USA especially and you will likely be given a $500 voucher and a hotel room etc for all but force majeure delays.

Make a fuss about it here and you are likely to have the Federal Police called and be dragged away in handcuffs.

I attended the Dusseldorf FT weekend last weekend. Punki and Hunki came across from Seattle on AWARD tickets. Their flight was oversold. They were offered $US800 EACH in vouchers or $US400 each in CASH if they took the next flight which got them there just 3 hours later - guaranteed. Same business class, class equipment.

There is the difference.
