AA let me change the dates free of charge when my mum died between booking a flight and flying it (discount economy with no flexibility). They were easy and sympathetic to deal with on the phone and just wanted me to email in a copy of the death certificate. I had a similar expeirience to
callum9999 when my mother died. It was an award ticket rather than a revenue one but they let me cancel it with a full refund and waived redeposit fees. I would suggest that you call AA and see what they say. i would be surprised if they did not try to be helpful.
