To the OP - if you're used to the Domestic First configuration on carriers such as AA, then you will be surprised and disappointed by most European carriers' offerings in Business Class. BA used to provide more width on their CE product by reducing the width of the middle seat with some clever armrest configuration, but that has gone now and you're left with an Economy seat with a shared middle table.

I've more than once heard visitors from the US be surprised that this is all they get for the money at the front of the plane. It's pretty standard across Europe as others have said, and the US and East Asian carriers tend to provide a better hard product at the front on shorthaul.
