I’m very sorry for your loss. As you bought the tickets on AA I would call them first to see what can they do. Usually airlines have policies in place for situations like this however it good to hear you have an insurance safety net for the worst case.
I don’t think BA can do anything at this point. I think you should post this question in the AA forum probably you get quicker answer.
