No, I had interpreted your original post as being A$8000 for each passenger. I can't see how A$4K each can be right. That would be more like a B class WHY fare, not J.
The cheapest I have heard of for J SYD-LAX is a bit over A$6000, and that is only as far as LAX. Of course, a DCIR22 is not much more than that!
